2015 Secret U.S. Classic - Seniors

I am beyond excited! The Senior Women's division at the 2015 Secret U.S. Classic is about to get underway. Lovvvveeee the red and silver leotard Aly Raisman is wearing! Best wishes to Marissa Oakley of Phenom Gymnastics who has withdrawn to an injury sustained in warm up. Oooo love Gabby's leotard too.... actually I love them all so far! So much sparkle in the Arena!! Fantastic Uneven Bars routine from Gabby! Such a unique leotard for Bailie Key... the paint splatter sleeves and sides is awesome! Solid! Step to the side for Aly Raisman. Blue and white for Simone Biles. Solid. Pink leo with diamantes for Skinner. Unfortunate fall and looked tentative throughout the rest of the routine. Another fall for Alyssa Baumann... hopefully she comes back strong. After one rotation, Maggie Nichols (who pulled out her Amanar) leads over Raisman and Douglas!

Super routine from Maggie Nichols whilst Douglas was rock solid on Beam. Nice routine from Key. Fantastic Floor Exercise with trademark big tumbling from Simone Biles. It was a good Bars routine from Aly! Scary fall from Brenna Dowell on Beam but she seems to be okay. Not the best Floor routine from McKayla Skinner... hands down on her final pass and a number of landing errors. Problems on the transition for high to low bar for Kyla Ross. Comes back okay. Fall for Kylie Dickson - love the purple and pink leotard with diamantes and flowers. At the halfway mark Biles leads over Nichols with Douglas in third.

I missed Bailie's Vault. Oh wait big step back. HUUUUGGGGGEEEE Vault from Biles!! A couple of big bobbles from Aly but a solid Beam routine. 2 solid Vaults from Mykayla Skinner whilst Ross had a bobble but stayed on the Beam for a good routine. Fantastic Floor routine from Gabby!! With one rotation to go Biles leads from Douglas and Maggie Nichols!!

Great routine from Madison Kocian on Bars! Another strong Bars routine from Simone Biles! Aly sits down in a deep squat her second pass. Finished strong! Awesome Vault from Gabby! Solid Bars routine from Skinner. Gorgeous Floor routine from Maggie Nichols. Biles wins over Douglas and Nichols!!!

Update on Lauren Mitchell

The West Australian has published an interview with Australian Olympian Lauren Mitchell as she recovers from LARS surgery. You can read the full interview at:

In the interview Lauren says:

“I must have had a lot of energy that day because all of my tumbles were really high,” Mitchell said.
“This particular tumble was a little bit too high and my timing was slightly off. I landed on a straight leg and it just went all the way back and sideways.
“But I didn’t think it was an ACL. Usually ACLs swell up straight away ... I could still walk, I could squat, I could straighten my knee.”
Mitchell went for scans that night, but wasn’t overly worried until she got the call with the bad news.
“I was just sitting on my bed and crying,” she said.
“Immediately I thought: ‘I just can’t do this again’.
“I was just thinking back to my shoulder (reconstruction after London in 2012) because that was a really long, slow process and it was tough to come back from.”
But two weeks after surgery, the 2010 floor world champion is determined to do everything in her power to be at a third Olympics.
Mitchell said she wanted to show the results of a new training program she had employed over the past 12 months — results she believes are good enough to make a final in Rio and give her a chance of an elusive Olympic medal.
Mitchell, 24, said the first surgeon she saw had been prepared to do a traditional reconstruction just days after she injured it.
But further consultation with WAIS staff and other surgeons led her to opt for the LARS procedure in the hope of getting back in six to eight months, rather than the 10-12 month lay-off of a traditional reconstruction.
“That was one of the toughest decisions to make,” she said. “Being at the end of my career, thinking about retirement, but then also thinking about my body.
“I wanted to go into next year with no regrets. I think if I went with just the pure hamstring surgery I would probably have the regret of ‘what if’.
“I still might not make it to Rio, but I’m going to give it everything.”

Day 2 - Pan Am Games RG Apparatus Finals

Welcome to the final day of the Rhythmic Gymnastics competition at the 2015 Pan American Games. Today sees the Individual Clubs and Ribbon Final and the Groups 6 Clubs, 2 Hoops Final. American Laura Zeng was the top qualifier to both finals... could she make it a clean sweep or will we see someone else take the titles? Gorgeous routine from Canadian Patricia Bezzoubenko to start off the Clubs Final. Solid routine from Mexico's Karla Diaz Arnal - was that a small fumble we saw in the middle of the routine? Unfortunate drop of the Club by Canadian Carmen Whelan. Another sensational routine from Laura Zeng!! Lovely routine from her compatriot Jasmine Kerber. Solid routine by Angelica Kvieczynski. Zeng adds another gold medal to her collection with Bezzoubenko winning the silver medal and Kerber earning the bronze.

Few issues with Carmen Whelan's Ribbon routine to start off the second final of the day. Lovely routine from Mexican Karla Diaz Arnal. Another gorgeous routine from Jasmine Kerber!! Another beautiful routine from Brazilian Angelica Kvieczynski. Yet another clean routine from Zeng. Was really hoping for another medal for Bezzoubenko. And it's official - American Laura Zeng has swept the titles at this year's Pan American Games! Jasmine Kerber takes the silver medal with the Ribbon with Angelica Kvieczynski taking the bronze.

In the Group Competition, the United States Group consisting of Kiana Eade, Alisa Kano, Natalie McGiffert, Monica Rokhman, Jennifer Rokhman and Kristen Shaldybin made history winning the first ever Gold medal for the U.S. in the Group competition. Brazil finished second with Canada in third.
